Woodingdean skate park the new kid on the block
There is a great new Skatepark on Bexhill Road Woodingdean. It was officially opened on Saturday 28th July with over 200 people in attendance. The skatepark is already attracting skaters from all over Woodingdean, Brighton and beyond. Reactions to the new park have so far have been extremely positive. Youngsters have been ‘tweeting’ their friends New Woodingdean skatepark is sooo good and Over 50 people having a great time.
The Deans Youth Project raised funds (funders include Veolia Environmental Trust, The Big Lottery, Brighton & Hove Council and PARC) for the park that was given the go-ahead earlier this year. The plans were drawn up by members of the Deans Youth Project working with Groundworks UK and Freestyle Skateparks – who are one of the UK’s leading skatepark builders.
You can see the latest images of the skatepark taken by Gary Rolf https://t.co/2pSpQjxg . Gary worked with the Deans Youth project at the time funding was secured but now runs Youth Workers Direct – an organisation aimed at giving local youngsters the opportunities to experience fun outdoors – mountain biking, fishing and kayaking http://www.youthworkersdirect.co.uk/.
Gary says We are really pleased that the park is already being used by youngsters from Woodingdean, Brighton and as far afield as Peacehaven and Shoreham. As a community we are really pleased with what we have achieved. The skatepark was a long time in development and it was only the spirit of the local people that kept the project alive.
The skatepark is on the no. 22 and 52 bus routes so easy to get to and for youngsters not interesting in skating there is a great new adventure playground next door.
