Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for Woodingdean (and beyond) Lifeboat crew
Congratulations to eight of Brighton's volunteer lifeboat crew who are to receive the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal at a private ceremony on Sunday the August. The volunteers, Conrad Levy, Mark Smith, Mark Nightingale, Jez Tate, Chris Foulston, Roger Cohen, Tony Parsons and Mark Bell have notched up an amazing 100 years voluntary service through their life-saving work for the RNLI. Two of the men being awarded are from Woodingdean, Mark Smith and Tony Parsons so a special mention must go to them! Well done guys.
There is also an open day this weekend at the Brighton Marina lifeboat station where you may also get to meet Woodingdean residents Malcolm Harvey and Dave Harris who are also members of the regular RNLI crew. The event is free and is from 11am to 4pm. There will be boats on show from Brighton, Shoreham and Newhaven and the helicopter Rescue 104 will be making an overhead appearance at 2pm (subject to operational demands. As well as being able to clamber on-board the lifeboats, Stormy Sam will be on hand to entertain and educate the kids with games and a quiz, there will be some fantastic and detailed lifeboat models and Brighton Marina Yacht Club are putting on a hearty BBQ.
The crew look forward to welcoming you.
You will find the Lifeboat station at Brighton Marina (End of the West Quay, Past the ASDA petrol station), BN2 5UF.
